Sandwich board
Sandwich board can be used as a somewhat generic term for different types of board or panel products where one type of material is sandwiched between one or two other, usually more durable materials. A sandwich panel is usually the same type of detail design solution but more specifically refers to an insulative cladding product, which is made up of a foam or mineral insulation sandwiched between two layers or profiled metal.
The term sandwich board might be used to describe boards made entirely of timber such as coreboard, battenboard, blockboard or lamin board but also other materials such as cardboard sandwich panels, plastic or pvc sandwich panels, and or aluminium sandwich panels. In the later the inner core is usually a foam or air entrained product with the other layers being solid, this gives some of the strength and durability of the solid material but helps create a lighter weight product. Composite sandwich panels are usually made up of different materials and used either because their strength to weight ratio or because of the added insulation qualities the air entrained middle layer brings.
The term is also used to describe a small self standing A-frame, normally used to display a sign or notice free standing outside retail outlets, restaurants or venues. These often have chains as the horizontal elements allowing them to stand freely when open and be easily folded and packed away when not in use.
